Annual Spring Grounds Clean Up Day

Many Hands Make Light Work

Saturday, April 13, 2024

9:00 am to 12:00 pm

Come for an hour... come for three.

Kids are welcome.

  • Gardening tools, if you have any.
    • Rake, shovel, broom, clippers, bear claws, ladder, pruners, etc.
  • Hat
  • Sun block
  • Gloves
  • Water bottle
  • Long sleeves

Check-in at the table on the west side of the Fellowship Hall.

We'll have a list of tasks at the check-in table and you choose the task(s) that you prefer.

For example:

  • Check drip irrigation emitters under Larry Arp's most excellent guidance.
  • Repairing/replacing broken emitters
  • Weeding mulched areas next to building + parking lot islands
  • Clean out gutters
  • Rake pine needles under the 9 Sisters Pine Tree Alley
  • Hauling tree limbs and pine needles to Western Disposal
  • Inspect the pile of stuff on the west edge of property and decide if it is to be kept or disposed of. (old plastic playground parts, rubber mat,  etc.)  
  • Mow grass as needed
  • Paint or stain Free Library
  • Fluff mulch
  • imps out of established trees
  • Sweep pine cones off sidewalks
  • Any other tasks invented by the Grounds Teams:

From Larry Arp:  Jobs for April 13th Grounds Day

  • Pick up trash around parking lots and borders
  • Fluff up Gorilla Mulch on parking lot islands and west entrance
  • Remove extra irrigation emitters for trees and shrubs*
  • Clean rain gutters and downspouts*
  • Run new irrigation line for switch grass area by sanctuary*
  • Subdivide and transplant switch grass by sanctuary*
  • Move flagstone by wheelbarrow from south entrance to barn
  • Pickup sticks and branches throughout
  • Pull weeds at entrances, islands, and hell strip
  • Level wood chips under swings in the playground
  • Move much of the apple tree mulch to slopes around south parking lot*

Third Annual Switch Grass Cutting

 Each year about this time, members of the BVUUF Grounds Team have to cut down the dead switch grass straw to encourage new growth.  This year's team was made up of Larry Arp, Hans Jordan, Paul Brynteson, Steve Nelson and David Burrous.
